To beat climate change, we need decisive and exponential action. In the Exponential Climate Action Summits, we bring together the foremost thinkers and doers in climate action to discuss what innovations and policies exist that can bring the change required in order to halve emissions by 2030 in the Race To Zero.
We have explored how digitalization can enable sufficient action in businesses and governments. We have also discussed the solutions that digitalization brings in the sectors of energy, transport and industry, along with the frontrunners of each sector.

Christiana Figueres is an internationally recognized leader on climate change. She was Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change from 2010 to 2016, where she oversaw the delivery of the historic Paris Agreement. Today she is the co-founder of Global Optimism, co-host of the podcast “Outrage & Optimism” and is the co-author of the recently published book, “The Future We Choose.”
Nigel Topping, CMG, is a renowned figure in climate action, serving as the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP26, where he launched global initiatives like Race To Zero and Race To Resilience. Nigel is now a Senior Advisor to FSD Africa, Global Ambassador to the High-Level Climate Champions, and an External Member of the Advisory Committee for AXA IM. He also advises governments, financial institutions, and private companies on climate strategy, with a focus on mobilizing climate finance and catalyzing exponential change in climate action. Nigel's commitment to sustainability earned him the CMG distinction in 2022 and recognition as a key leader in shaping a sustainable future.
Prof. Dr. Johan Rockström is the Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor at the Institute of Earth and Environmental Science at Potsdam University. Rockström is an internationally recognized scientist on global sustainability issues, who led the development of the new Planetary Boundaries framework for human development in the current era of rapid global change at the Stockholm Resilience Centre. He is a leading scientist on global water resources, with about 25 years of experience from applied water research in tropical regions, and more than 150 research publications in fields ranging from applied land and water management to global sustainability. Aside from his research helping to guide policy, Rockström consults several governments and business networks. He also acts as an advisor for sustainable development issues at noteworthy international meetings, such as the World Economic Forum, the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conferences (UNFCCC). Supplementary, he chairs the advisory board for the EAT Foundation and the Earth League.
Niklas Heuveldop is the Senior Vice President, Ericsson North America, serving Ericsson’s customers in the United States and Canada with industry-leading technology and services. Heuveldop most recently served as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Group Function Technology & Emerging Business, a new position which combined the Corporate Strategy and Technology functions, Ericsson Research, Business Innovation, Mergers & Acquisitions, Emerging Business and focused on the Internet of Things, as well as Information Technology and Ericsson’s Digital Transformation.
Helen joined The Climate Group in 2017 as its Chief Executive Officer. In addition to leading the growing Climate Group team, Helen sits on the board of the We Mean Business Coalition , chairs the Finance & Audit Committee for the Sustainable Development Capital Energy Efficiency Income Trust, and is on the Mission Council for Pukka Herbs. Prior to joining The Climate Group, Helen worked at Forum for the Future where she founded the organization’s US office. At Forum, Helen led work with large US corporations such as Target, Walmart, Nike, Gap, and Levi Strauss & Co. to solve complex sustainability challenges at both the organizational and broader systemic level. Helen joined Forum from Médecins Sans Frontières where she worked on humanitarian missions in countries including Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Pakistan and Nigeria. Helen qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte, and has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Cambridge University, and a master’s degree from Birkbeck College, University of London.
Adnan Z. Amin is the first Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and was granted the honorary title of Director-General Emeritus by the 2019 IRENA Assembly, at the conclusion of his tenure in recognition of his leadership and outstanding service to the Agency. Appointed for an initial four-year term in 2011, Mr. Amin was re-appointed unanimously by the Assembly for a second term in 2015. During his tenure, IRENA became the authoritative voice of renewable energy and a leading player in the global energy transition. The Agency’s membership increased three-fold and now accounts for 160 Members and 24 countries. Before his tenure at IRENA, Mr. Amin enjoined a distinguished career serving the United Nations. He served as Head of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) Secretariat; led the Secretariat for the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on UN System-wide Coherence; and was the Director of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) New York Office and Special Representative of the UNEP Executive Director.
Andreas Ahrens leads the global climate agenda for Inter IKEA Group (the IKEA franchisor) and the full IKEA value chain – from raw material extraction to product end-of-life. He is the main spokesperson for climate – internally and externally – for the total climate agenda at IKEA. He also leads the connected strategic initiative to secure that IKEA develops the organization to meet the set strategic commitments and targets to become climate positive by 2030 by reducing more greenhouse gas emissions than the IKEA value chain emits, while growing the IKEA business. He has previously worked extensively with sustainability integration into both product development and supply chain management, with special focus on climate and circular economy.
Johan Falk is a leader and entrepreneur in exponential strategies for climate and business. Falk is the CEO and Co-founder of Exponential Roadmap Initiative, with the mission to accelerate exponential climate action. Falk is the co-lead author of Exponential Roadmap and 1.5°C Business Playbook. Falk is a former Senior Innovation Fellow at Stockholm Resilience Centre and Future Earth. Falk was one of the initiators of the Global Carbon Law idea, together with Owen Gaffney and Johan Rockström, inspired by Moore's Law. Further, Falk was part of Intel Corporation 2006-2018, responsible for Intel IoT Ignition Lab and heading up the Intel Edge Cloud Game Changer program for 5G networks. Falk received the Intel Global Design Win of the Year 2010 for accelerating the telecom business exponentially to a multi-billion dollar business.

Ingmar Rentzhog has been the chairman of the environmental think tank Global Challenge. He is on the board of Naventus Corporate Finance. He’s a member of Al Gore’s Climate Reality and European Climate Policy Task Force and he was in 2022 appointed a European Climate Pact Ambassador by the European Commission.

Mats has over 20 years’ experience in digitalization and sustainability. Under his leadership Ericsson was the first manufacturer in the telecom sector to have science-based targets on a Net Zero trajectory and also the first company in the sector to renew targets after successfully concluding their first SBTi commitments. The conviction to base decisions and plans on science and facts is manifested by being part of the initiation and steering of the Exponential Climate Action Roadmap report as well as leading the joint project with Columbia University on ICT and SDGs. Mats has been spearheading industry in sustainability both as a consultant and in global companies such as Ericsson, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Nobia.
Maria Fernanda Garza is a Mexican business woman. Her interest in improving the business environment by advocating for Corporate Social Responsibility and Anti-Corruption in Mexico made her a prominent leader at a young age. Maria Fernanda Garza was Chair of ICC México from 2014 – 2020, and she is currently First Vice Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Regional Coordinator for the Americas and President of ICC’s Board Committee, NetCom. She has participated in various Climate Change events such as Green Solutions, CEPAL’s Public-Private Dialogue and the Sustainability Summit.
Jonas Eklind is the CEO and President of the Swedish listed energy storage company Azelio AB. Azelio has developed a unique technology for storing renewable energy in recycled aluminium and supply the energy as electricity and heat at a low cost and on demand, at all hours of the day. Jonas Eklind has extensive experience of leadership in renewable technology companies with focus on transformation of innovation into commercialization and global market expansion. In 2019 Jonas Eklind was awarded Mission Innovation champion.
Dorothee D'Herde leads the sustainable business team at Vodafone Group – supporting the delivery of Vodafone’s Purpose agenda (including the “Planet” pillar) and contribution to the SDGs, as well as ensuring sound responsible business practices and transparent reporting. She joined a year ago after 10 years at McKinsey & Company, most recently as Director of sustainability and social impact, with responsibility for the firm's responsible business practices and its contribution to society.
Jennifer Artley was appointed managing director of Technology, Life Sciences, and Business Services in October 2018, a role she holds concurrently while also serving as President, BT in the Americas. Artley has been a member of the Committee for Economic Development of The Conference Board (CED), a non-profit, nonpartisan, business-led public policy organization that delivers well-researched analysis and reasoned solutions to our nation’s most critical issues. An avid proponent of sustainability, Artley represented BT at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, as well as at regional WEFs in Latin America. She also participated in the CEO roundtable discussion at the 2018 United Nations General Assembly. In addition, she has published several thought leadership pieces to raise awareness around a sustainable future. Finally, as BT Global’s recent Digital Impact and Sustainability executive sponsor, Artley will be working closely with our sustainability team to develop a platform ensuring that BT achieves its environmental targets.
Dr. Edda Aradóttir is the CEO of Carbfix, a company that mitigates climate change by turning CO2 emissions into stone underground. Prior to taking on her current role, Edda was the Head of Innovation and Strategic Planning at the department of Research and Innovation at Reykjavik Energy while also being the project manager for the international Carbfix project. Edda has extensive experience in research related to reservoir management and engineering, chemistry and hydrology as well as project management in the field of renewable energy. Edda received a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iceland in 2004, a M.Sc. in Theoretical Chemistry in 2006 from the University of Iceland and a Ph.D. in Reservoir Engineering in 2011 from the University of Iceland in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Marie-Claire is a passionate advocate and public speaker dedicated to driving a just transition towards sustainable development and ambitious climate action. She is also the co-founder of the Youth Negotiators Academy and Climate Youth Negotiator Programme. Believing in the pivotal role of youth in shaping the future, she empowers young people to take meaningful actions, leading initiatives at local, national, and international levels. Her leadership has led her to chair the Youth Constituency YOUNGO of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and serve as the UN Food Systems Summit Vice-Chair on youth. Marie-Claire's commitment to global sustainability efforts has earned her recognition, including the title of United Nations Youth Climate Champion of Switzerland. Through her advocacy and leadership, she inspires and mobilizes youth to address the urgent challenges posed by the climate crisis and drive positive change worldwide
Henrik Henriksson joined Scania 1997. Two decades later, 2016, he was appointed President and CEO. Entrepreneurial at heart, Henrik joined Scania to explore global business and has stayed thanks to Scania’s strong customer focus, the delegated responsibility and the constant aim to do better. The transport industry accounts for a significant share of the global CO 2 emissions. Henrik’s passion and fierce advocacy for sustainability has become a beacon in the shift towards a fossil free transport system. Henrik is an advisor to the Swedish Government and part of their delegation for the Agenda 2030; the UN’s sustainable development goals. He leads Scania from Sweden where the political commitment to decarbonize, power of innovation and competition within a strong heavy commercial vehicle cluster has enabled significant progress. With a new defined purpose for the company, Henrik continues to position Scania as a role model in decarbonizing the heavy commercial vehicle sector.
Green entrepreneur Dale Vince has dedicated his life to building a greener planet. From starting Ecotricity, the world’s green energy company with one windmill in 1995, the company now supplies over 200,000 homes and businesses across Great Britain. His ventures all focus on the same big issues – Energy, Transport and Food and how we change the way we live to get to zero carbon. Dale built the pioneering Nemesis electric car in 2008, and founded Europe’s first national EV charging network, The Electric Highway in 2010, and owns vegan food business Devil’s Kitchen – which creates vegan school dinners, free of all allergens. Rescuing Forest Green Rovers football club in 2010 – it now follows his principles and is now recognised as the world’s greenest football club by FIFA. His first book, Manifesto – published by Penguin goes on sale worldwide this November.
Simon Holmström is the environmental activist who became the youngest Member of Parliament on Åland because of his frustration over the climate crisis. He represents a new Ålandic party which now is part of the regional government. Simon has a Master's degree in environmental psychology from Surrey University and has since then taken a leading role in the Ålandic sustainability work. He is also co-founder of the youth movement ReGeneration 2030 which works for Agenda 2030 in the Nordics and the Baltic Sea region. As a new member of the Nordic Council from Åland, Simon has taken the initative for a member proposition for an end date of the use of fossil fuels. According to him, this is a way of planting a seed for a new international movement.
Robert Falck is the CEO and founder of Einride, a Swedish technology company that develops and provides freight mobility solutions based on electric and autonomous vehicles, leading the transition to sustainable transport. A serial entrepreneur, he founded and co-founded several businesses, and worked his way up from the factory floor of major OEMs before starting Einride in 2016. Mr. Falck holds a B.Sc and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, a B.Sc. in Economics and Finance, and a B.Sc. in Business.
Susanné Wallner is Vice VD of Restart Earth. She was Business Manager ElectriVillage for Mariestad municipality, a UNESCO model area for sustainable development in Sweden. Mariestad’s unique ElectriVillage is testing and demonstrating sustainable transport and energy systems to meet climate goals. ElectriVillage includes renewable energy systems and is at the forefront when it comes to hydrogen, not least the hydrogen preschool that is currently being built with the same system solution and has the world's first solar-powered hydrogen filling stations. Susanné was previously Regional Councilor in the Jämtland / Härjedalen region with a focus on business. Susanné has also run her own company for 10 years in the wool industry.
Majda Dabaghi is the Director of Inclusive & Green Growth at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) – the instituational representative of 45 million companies in over 100 countries. Majda heads ICC’s work on sustainability, climate action and biodiversity, leading business engagement that promotes inclusive economic growth in line with the UN Climate Change and Sustainable Development Goals. Majda is also the UNFCCC Focal Point for business and industry non-governmental organisations, promoting the private sector commitment to the implementation of the Paris Agreement by demonstrating private sector leadership and action and providing constructive policy input from business to the UNFCCC process.

Climate Week NYC is an annual event that has taken place every year in New York City since 2009. The summit takes place alongside the UN General Assembly and brings together international leaders from business, government and civil society to showcase global climate action.
This year's Climate Week NYC is one of the few international climate summits taking place in 2020. As the focus shifts to how we rebuild after COVID-19, Climate Week NYC 2020 will explore what lessons we can learn in the pursuit of a net-zero future through just transition. Climate Week NYC is hosted in association with the United Nations and the City of New York.
Race To Zero is a global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth. It mobilizes a coalition of leading net zero initiatives, representing 449 cities, 21 regions, 995 businesses, 38 of the biggest investors, and 505 universities.
These ‘real economy’ actors join 120 countries in the largest ever alliance committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest. Collectively these actors now cover nearly 25% global CO2 emissions and over 50% GDP.
