13:15–14:30 CEST — Nature as an Economic Choice

How do we balance the inherent, unquantifiable worth of nature with the planetary benefits to assign it a monetary value? Ecosystem services, like water purification, pollination, and carbon storage, are estimated to contribute trillions of euros annually to the global economy—some estimates placing their worth at over €115 trillion per year. This session explores the paradox of treating 'Nature as an Economic Choice,' focusing on the transformation of priceless ecosystems into measurable assets. By highlighting water—an indispensable resource critical to life and often undervalued— amongst other ecosystem services, we examine how monetizing ecosystem services can unlock funding for biodiversity conservation, foster nature restoration, and underscore the tangible benefits ecosystems provide, from clean water and air to climate regulation and flood protection.

While Boards act as stewards for a better future, 70% of them still recognize not being effective when it comes to integrating ESG into corporate strategy and governance.

15:15–16:00 CEST — Make Science Great Again

We Don't Have Time Launches a New Campaign Open to Everyone

The achievement of the Paris Agreement was built on solid scientific foundations. It was built on painstaking research and cutting edge assessments compiled over the previous 30+ years and touching on fields such as atmospheric, behavioural and economic science. This science shows acting on climate change is a win win. It also underlines that to reap those benefits, fossil fuels need to be phased down and out.

But science is now under attack from some powerful populist governments and their corporate allies – and they want to cancel it. Why? Because they are really worried. Worried because the movement and momentum to act on climate change has been getting stronger and stronger since Paris 2015. Climate action has now reached a point that it threatens the pockets and profits of those invested in business models of the past – so they want to cancel science and try and make it, and climate action, go away.

If science and scientists are cancelled then truth and reality goes out the window – and perhaps those forces fighting against climate action might just be able to create the illusion that climate change is really no big deal.

New scientific findings and technological developments that can help us act even better on climate change, and build stronger, climate-proof economies, risk being ignored and unheard.

We Don't Have Time, with the help of the many rather than the self interested few, say it is time to stand up to this attempt to turn climate science into fake news. It is time to Make Science Great Again so that the climate action course set by the Paris Agreement continues its journey with even greater speed. And focus on the crucial task at hand that continues to build a world where climate change no longer threatens our economies, health and security.

So join us for our presentation and learn how to get involved.
